Screen-Reader issue

Hi there,

on our WordPress-Instance (https://blogs.hoou.de/lehreinklusiv/) we have the following problem, and we want to know if anyone has experience with it…

If your answer in the quiz https://blogs.hoou.de/lehreinklusiv/grundlagen/quiz-grundlagen-von-barri... is made, there should be feedback which can visually be seen, but is not accessible for screen readers. Feedback is announced, but not spoken by screen reader, as is shown on the attached image. Tested with screen readers, jaws and voiceover.


BTW: I apologize in advance for not being able to express the whole circumstance, but I think I have no real option to test the whole case, because of lacking experience with screen readers and aria-tags.

I would be really happy, if anybody can help.

ich schreibe dir erst mal auf deutsch, obwohl das hier nicht so gerne gesehen wird. Du hast ein mehrschichtiges Problem.

1. Woher weißt du, mit welchem Screenreader deine Studenten diese Übung besuchen?

2. Woher weißt du, dass deine Studenten nicht ein anderes Betriebssystem nutzen, unter dem die von dir genannten screenreader gar nicht vorhanden sind?

3. Woher weißt du, ob deine Studenten nicht ein screenreader-plugin für ihren jeweiligen Browser benutzen?

Eine schnelle Lösung hierfür fällt mir jetzt hier nicht wirklich ein. Daran muss H5P definitiv noch arbeiten. Also die Barrierefreiheit zu verbessern. Aber daran ließe sich ja arbeiten. Insofern wäre das etwas für den feature request oder für die Unterstützng von h5p beim coden und der Weiterentwicklung des Produkts. Am sinnvollsten wäre eben, wenn die richtige Antwort auf einer reinen html Seite erscheinen würde, die sich von  welchem screenreader auch immer vorlesen ließe.

I write to you first in German, although this is not seen here so gladly. You have a multi-layered problem.

1. how do you know which screen reader your students are using for this exercise?

2. how do you know that your students are not using a different operating system, where the screenreader you mentioned is not available?

3. how do you know that your students are not using a screenreader-plugin for their browser?

I can't really think of a quick solution to this right now. H5P definitely still needs to work on that. So to improve the accessibility. But that could be worked on. In this respect, this would be something for the feature request or for the support of h5p in the coding and further development of the product. It would make the most sense if the correct answer would appear on a pure html page, which could be read out by any screenreader.

Hi Karsten!

You're using an outdated version of Multiple Choice (version 1.16.1). That bug was fixed already. Updating to the latest version of Multiple Choice (version 1.16.3) should resolve your issue.

thanks for the prompt answer, but as you can see on the attached image there doesn't seem to be an option to update the plugin. Can you tell me how to update?

You should

  1. make sure that you have the latest version of Multiple Choice installed (via the Hub, no need to install anything from an external source) and possibly also the latest version of InteractiveBook and Column and
  2. you need to upgrade the instances of InteractiveBook as that is the main content type that you created.

Hi villon,

thanks for the rapid answer. I have only access to the wordpress backend, not to the command line. I tried to install it via 'Bibliotheken hochladen' but that told me:

'File "h5p-multi-choice-05833efe56f94bd6e50f8a870852aa1058b3c478/" not allowed. Only files with the following extensions are allowed: json png jpg…  css.'

for 6 files.

When I rename the file from zip to h5p, the same thing happens.

When I activated 'Überprüfung der Dateierweiterung deaktivieren', I was told 'Library directory name must match machineName or machineName-majorVersion.minorVersion (from library.json). (Directory: h5p-multi-choice-05833efe56f94bd6e50f8a870852aa1058b3c478 , machineName: H5P.MultiChoice, majorVersion: 1, minorVersion: 16)•'

Can you please suggest me how to update the plugin?

du solltest die entsprechende Bibliothek upgraden oder upgraden lassen. Screenshot ist beigefügt. Falls du diese Option nicht hast, muss dies von demjenigen mit den ensprechenden Rechten gemacht werden.Liebe Grüßevillon Hello Karsten,

Screenshot is attached. If you don't have this option, it has to be done by the person with the corresponding rights.
