Why is our embed running through http://adlnet.gov?
Hi,
I was very excited to come across this open source project.
I installed the audio recorder as well as the H5PxAPIkatchu plugin for data. I noticed that our audio recorder embed data is running through:
http://adlnet.gov/expapi/verbs/accessed-embed
The link belongs to ADL. The ADL organization's description is as follows:
"The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative is a government program reporting to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness (ASD(R))."
I see H5P is owned by Joubel.
Does Joubel have a contract with the United States government? If so, if we use the open source software are you sharing our data with anyone, including the United States government?
Why is the data showing our embedded plugin running through http://adlnet.gov/expapi/verbs/accessed-embed?
Thanks.

Hi Dest!
This must be how conspiracy theories come to life ... Before you post stuff like this, please make sure that you actually understand what's happening.
There's nothing running through http://adlnet.gov. That organization (among others) is just the provider of some standardized verbs for xAPI statements in order to have a common understanding of what a verb means, and the verb id field is supposed to contain a link to the description of the verb's meaning.
When you click on the embed button of audio recorder, H5P lets the host system (your WordPress system in this case) know about this by emitting an xAPI statement with the verb "accessed-embed" - and in fact the adlnet ID is not even a valid one as far as I can see. That's what you are picking up with H5PxAPIkatchu.
Best,
Oliver

Hi Oliver, Forums are
Hi Oliver,
Forums are intended to be supportive not condensing or rude, no matter who you are.
Clearly, I am asking a question because I am concerned about transparency.
The content on the page about xAPI statement says:
The Experience API (or xAPI) is a new specification for learning technology that makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of experiences a person has (online and offline). This API captures data in a consistent format about a person or group’s activities from many technologies. Very different systems are able to securely communicate by capturing and sharing this stream of activities using xAPI’s simple vocabulary.
Previous specifications were difficult and had limitations (see xAPI vs SCORM), but the Experience API is simple and flexible. It lifts many of the older restrictions. Mobile learning, simulations, virtual worlds, serious games, real-world activities, experiential learning, social learning, offline learning, and collaborative learning are just some of the things that can now be recognized and communicated well with the Experience API.
It’s important to know that we don’t own the Experience API. ADL is the steward of the specification. We just know this space so well that ADL asked us to help develop it. The Experience API is community-driven, and free to implement.
If you look at the copy in bold it states that ADL is the steward. If they are the steward then in theory they could use the data for any purpose.
This is what I am trying to clarify for my organization.
So as a provider does ADL, or any other organization, have a right to use any of the data generated by an organizations use of H5P?
Regards,
Dest,

Hi everyone,
I've reached out to the H5P core team for clarifications regarding ADL. We should hear back from them soon.

Hi BV, For reference attached
Hi BV,
For reference attached to this message is a screenshot of what I am seeing.
I have to report back to my organization and am looking for a "Yes" or "No" answer to the following question...
"So as a provider {steward} does ADL, or any other organization, have a right to use any of the data generated by an organization's use of H5P?"
Your help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Dest

Hi Dest!
Sorry, but you could simply have asked "What is this ADL thingy?" instead of "Why is our embed running through http://adlnet.gov?" and thus suggesting it is plus trying to construct a connection to the US government.
Cheers,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,
H5P is an organization that facilitates learning. As an organization that faciliates learning there is a lack of awareness regarding how incorrect it is to tell someone how to ask a question.
I asked a question based on the information I have. See the screenshot attached.
You added your own assumptions/ suggestions to the question and responded in a rash manner.
I am simply looking for clarification that I can share wth my organization.
While you provided some information, that is appreciated, you did not provide a "Yes" or "No" answer to the following (most important) question...
"So as a provider {steward} does ADL, or any other organization, have a right to use any of the data generated by an organization's use of H5P?"
I suggest a course on soft skills as it would prevent your interpretation of questions, rash responses, increase your helpfulness, and ensure the H5P.org brand identity is not diminished via rude responses that are not entirely helpful.

Hi Dest!
I am not part of the H5P core team and not affiliated with h5p.org, but I come across all kinds of rumors about H5P all the time, and I am getting tired of rectifying them. I appreciate your frank hint that I might need to improve my social skills, which is probably true, but I still find your initial post provoking.

Oliver

The answer is no
Hi Dest,
The screenshot you shared shows that ADL defined that verb and we are using their definition of it. It does not mean that they are getting any data. They do not, so the answer is simply no.
I believe Oliver found you stating that H5P embeds are running through that site, when they are not, provoking. Oliver is a community member like you and his tone of voice and opinions are his own.
