Interactive Video (YouTube) playback rate not working after latest update

Platform: Moodle 3.4
Desktop
Browsers: Chrome, Safari
H5P plugin version 1.14
H5P content types: Interactive Video (not sure which version, but updated to the most recent version as of 1/17/2019)

On 1/16/2019 I was able to adjust the playback rate in an Interactive Video activity (attached below) that uses a video from YouTube.  The Interactive Video content type was updated to the most recent version on 1/17/2019. On 1/18/2019, the playback rate could no longer be changed on the same Interactive Video. When the video is viewed directly on YouTube (https://youtu.be/5JiRhELhrlE) the playback rate can be adjusted as normal. No other settings were changed, the only difference was the content type update.

On 1/23/2019 I wasn´t able to adjust the playback rate in an Interactive Video activity (attached below) that uses a video from YouTube.  The playback rate and quality could no longer be changed on the same Interactive Video. The quality botom only show one quality, before this showed 720, 540, 360, 144 and auto.

When the video is viewed directly on YouTube (https://youtu.be/0yNIlMejvnc) the playback rate and quality can be adjusted as normal.

Regards,

Saludos

Hi Amiras!

Due to changes in YouTube's API, it is no longer possible for external players to set the video quality, cmp. https://h5ptechnology.atlassian.net/browse/HFP-1855

Not sure if something similar might have happened to the playback rate.

Cheers,

Oliver

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for reporting this! Is there a timeline for this bug fix?

Hi Ryan,

I'm afraid we do not have a timeline yet. Bugs usually gets fixed depending on how impactful it is to the functionality of the content. The good news is that H5P is open source so anyone in the community can help to fix any of the bugs reported. Sad to say in most cases it is up to the core team which is a very small team to fix bugs and create features.

Hi BV52,

Thanks for getting back to me - I totally understand. I'll continue to monitor this bug and I'm happy to do any testing once a patch is released.

It appears the playback function is still broken for YouTube videos. Sadly, this has to be fixed by Google and not the H5P team. The issue can be monitored here.
Alternatively, the H5P team could remove this button from Interactive Video using YouTube videos as their source.

I ran into this issue and noticed that it has been fixed:

I thought it might be useful information for others who discover this thread using Google.

Dear H5P,

I made an interactive video (or at least I'm starting with it). However, the video playback quality is 480p and I cannot change it. On YouTube, however, I can still select the 720p quality. I encountered this problem on Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Any tips?

Hi bioscience,

This is a feature that YT has removed from the API that H5P uses. You can read more about this on the tickets below:

Many thinaks for your swift reply. If I switch to fullscreen the video quality increases as mentioned in the tickets. I thought it was caused by something on my side.

Kind regards,

Arman
