Interactive Video in Moodle - activity completion not working
Hello,
I recently updated all the interactive videos on our site to the latest version, but then activity completion stopped working. I have done lots of testing and think I narrowed it down. Note: we want people to answer the questions within the video and not be able to skip forward, so the activity completion setting of "Student must view this activity to complete it" is not an option, we need it to be "Student must receive a grade to complete this activity".
- Scenario 1: Two questions throughout the video, no summary task, submit screen at the end of the video, and 'prevent skipping forward in a video' is unchecked. This results in the submit screen popping up as planned and activity completion checking off.
- Scenario 2: Two questions throughout the video, no summary task, submit screen at the end of the video, and 'prevent skipping forward in a video' is checked. The submit screen does not pop up and thus activity completion does not check off.
Is anyone else having the same issue or is there something I am missing? I'm really hoping it is something simple that I am overlooking.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Jess

I was browsing the other forums and found part of my answer (https://h5p.org/node/337725). Does anyone know when the fix will be pushed out?

Hi Jess,
From what I know the fix is included in the next release, although I am not sure when this will happen. We are still in process of testing the new features and bug fixes.

Same scenario here
I know this is a really old post, but the scenario above is exactly the same for me and I'm having no luck trying to find an answer. We have added a submit button 2 seconds before the video ends, and then the video continues to completion after submission. The only variation I can find between my test videos is that two of them do not have 'prevent skipping forward in a video' checked and they both work as expected. The third video, this option is enabled but the activity never completes. Having this enabled is absolutely necessary for us. Do you have any advice?

no clear answer
Hi Marcy - I wish I had a clear answer for you. The only positive is that it doesn't happen to everyone, only a small percentage, which is what I can't make sense of. About half of the people that report issues forgot to either click "check" on the question(s) or ignored the submit page. The remaining half can't get the submit screen to pop up (despite them telling us they did the other things). We ask these people to click on the star icon on the timeline - which brings up the submit screen. Then they are good to go. I can't even narrow it down to a browser.
I hope that helps a little bit. If you come up with another solution, please let me know, and I will do the same.

Thanks Jess
I will certainly post back if I find a solution. We have three quiz questions that they must answer at the end of the video clip, then a submit button. No matter how many times I run through this correctly - as a student should - it is the same result every time. The minute I deselect 'prevent skipping', it works. Fortunately we are still in the testing phase, so I am trying to figure out a workaround.

question type
Are you using the summary questions or other types that you add throughout? We have moved to avoid the summary questions and instead use multiple-choice, true/false, etc throughout the video. We also don't use single choice set as it can cause grading issues.

So here's what I've found
I was able to get this working by using the summary task. I have three multiple choice quiz questions that are set a few seconds apart near the end of the video. Once the student answers the three questions and uses the submit feature to post their answers, the summary task dialogue appears. The statement I've set is "Are you ready to proceed to the next chapter?" and there is only one answer - "yes". Once that is answered, the activity completion requirements are met, and the next chapter is available for the student. One minor problem is that the "jump to" link at the bottom of the screen doesn't automatically appear (unless they were to refresh the page), so we have to instruct the student to use the navigation menu on the left.

Questions
Yes we are using only three multiple choice questions, no summary task. They don't count toward the final grade, they are just practice questions but they must be completed and submitted before they can move on. Once submitted, the video goes to the end but the activity is never marked complete. I was actually going to test the summary task and see if that would work, placing it one second before the video ends.
