Weird score totals

Moodle 3.1, Columns - drag and drop

In the last exercise in the attached columns module, there are 11 drop zones. When you get all of them correct the score displayed says 11/14.

What's going on here? I've tried playing around with the behavioural settings - even 'one point for task' means it gives you 0/1.

Hi pdi_mufy,

Thank you for reporting this. We are still looking at the sample content that you provided. I just have one quick question, why not use Drag Text for this specific activity?

Good question! Because there are multiple possible constructions for most of those sentences - some of the words can go in multiple spots and still be correct, eg. "...about whether to raise, lower or maintain the price", "...about whether to maintain, raise or lower the price", "...about whether to lower, maintain or raise the price" etc. are all technically correct options in these grammatical structures. I think that this might be part of the reason for the issue - maybe there are 14 possible correct answers, but you can't actually input them all!

Hi pdi_mufy,

Thank you for the additional information. That was actually my initial diagnosis but after removing all multiple correct answers for the drop zones I still have the "additional" points. A colluegue of mine suggested that it could possibly the text that did not have drop zones assigned to it that is causing the issue. I removed them and now I am getting the correct score even with the drop zones having multiple correct answers (here's the sample).

So now the question is how to get around this issue. It has a very simple workaround that I suggested a few weeks ago which also helps in creating that activity easier. Put the text in (without drop zones) take a screenshot and use it as a background image. This will not only help with the scoring issue it will also help you in placing the drop zones much faster since the texts will not move around between the editor view and final product. I've edited your content and uploaded it here.

Hi BV52, thanks for all your hard work! I think I'm going to go through and change all our text-based drag and drops to background images. Just a word of advice for others - if you screenshot or create an image then scale it or edit in H5P, the quality will be pretty bad and stand out against the actual text in the module. If you want to use text as background image, the best way to ensure sharpness is to create it anew in photoshop with exactly the right ratio for the slide - the default drag and drop is 620*310 so I double that and create a 1240*620 image in PS, add the text there and make sure it's all correct there before exporting as PNG. If I need to make changes I go back to PS and make any changes there before exporting again as PNG. If you make any changes or need to adjust the size, ratio or crop in H5P (or capture screenshots), a lot (like, A LOT) of image/text quality and sharpness will be lost, as well as potentially stretching it out weirdly.
