MP3 for H5P

Hello,

i really love H5P and espacielly the Interactive Video Type. I also try to work with MP3s in the Interactive Video Type. First it doesn´t work, because of the Wrong Video Format. But when i rename the .mp3 to .mp4 and upload it, it works fine. Sometimes it also works with embedding, when I add "=default.mp4" to an URL which provides me an MP3 file (for example it works with the bavarian mediathek (https://mediathek.mebis.bayern.de/?doc=provideVideo&identifier=BY-000153...)

So i guess it is possible for H5P to use a normal .mp3. It is possible to make it run, wirhout using a trick?

Hi Bartholomäus!

It's not listed on the page of examples, but there is a content type called "Audio" that will play sound files. It might be what you're looking for unless you want to enhance the sound files with some interactions.

Hi otacke!

unfortunately it´s not the same. Because i use also drag and drop or multiple choice questions during the audio-file plays. Just like you can see on the following photo:

Tho oncly difference ist, that there ist no video but an audio. The audio type only allows me to play the audio file, but without interactive possibilities.

Do you know what i mean?

Sure, I understand what you mean. One workaround you might use (for now) is to simply create a video file that uses your sound file and a single image in the background.

Hallo Otacke,

Hi! It should be fairly simple to add support for sound files, but right now the focus is on other features. If you know someone who knows a little about coding, then he/she could certainly do the job.

Hi!

I´ll try my best and will let you know when i realized it.

So on behalf of Bartholomäus, we realized adding mp3 files to interactive video like the following - hvp for moodle btw.
Changed files are relative to the hvp_editor folder.

Nice! Your changes are not moodle-specific, by the way.

If you want this contribution to become official rather than a hack that's overwritten with every new core version, I think there'd be a little more to be done however.

  • I guess it should be more transparent to the user that audio files can also be used, so he or she should be informed about that. The text in the video upload widget and in all content type semantics that offer uploading video should be changed as well. I'm not sure if that's the smartest approach though. There might be a better way: open for discussion to everyone!
  • If there are other audio formats that work across all the major browsers, too, they could be supported as well.

Best,
Oliver
