Conversion from Adobe Flash

Hello

I would appreciate some advice on conversion of online pages including Flash objects to H5P format. I am not a learning technologist. Therefore, I do not have access to the raw code used to create these objects, just the finished product. The web pages containing the Flash objects are accessed via my WordPress site. However, at source, they are situated within institutional pages created by in-house software known as 'Edinburgh Reusable Object Sequencer'.  These pages are therefore not WordPress pages, although they are open access pages. I was advised by a learning technologist that I could use H5P to ensure that my Flash objects are not lost once Flash is no longer in use. Could I please have advice on how to get started and on what the conversion process actually involves (e.g. original pages into new pages rather original objects into new objects within a page).

Hi Margaret,

Afaik this is not possible. There are no softwares that can convert activities created in flash into H5Ps. But if someone in the community has other suggestion I'm all ears.

Thanks for this kind clarification, BV. I now know that the idea of migrating Flash content over to H5P involves recreating the content, not converting it. I have no exemplars regarding how this particular type of conversion could be achieved. My Flash objects involve animations. It would be helpful to get a sense of what the work involves and how much time would be involved in order that I can consider designing a project for a student. My Flash objects involve animations.  I would welcome advice from anyone who has completed this type of work previously or has access to exemplars of the particular type of migration process I am interested in.

I may help you. If the animations are just to explain something and not interactive then you can screen capture them and use as MP4 files in H5P. Can we get to see the actual content, then may be its easy to support or help.

Thank you for your initial suggestion concerning use of MP4 files.

The Flash content falls into the following categories:

1) images that contain hyperlinks to new pages - I am not clear why it was necessary to use Flash to create these images, but I do need to activate Flash to view them;

2) images that involve PowerPoint-like animations, in that extra content, such as image labelling, is revealed in stages - this is to avoid too much information appearing on the page on first viewing the image;

3) images that require users to click a button to reveal a static equation for a calculation; 

and

4) images that require more interactivity - the user selects numbers from drop-down menus and depending on their choice of numbers, the appearance of another Flash image changes.

My site requires user registration. If you still need to view the pages to recommend how best to proceed, please let me know.

Now I am going to create a series of these videos and then add interactions using h5p

I ran the animation in a window on my Linux Mint system using the flash player that can be downloaded at

This combination adds a huge pedagogic value to the animation as it leads to a series of guided explorations.
