Allow Correct Responses To Continue Automatically...

Hello, H5P development team! You are doing a FANTASTIC job. It's much appreciated by teachers, like me.

I would love to see a feature in future versions of H5P to allow, as a setting, the option to allow CORRECT responses to continue automatically, after 2 seconds or so, WITHOUT the need to click on a "Continue Button". This would be particularly useful for brief item quizzes and formative exercises with 10 or more items. In a class, an observer would see students clicking constantly; that constant clicking can nearly be eliminated with a relatively simple change. Also, this feature reduces the "fragmented attention" that our students experience daily. In short, the new feature encourages the focus on a "flow of success" that is, in itself, inherently rewarding.

1. This new feature would benefit many students because they would not be "stopped" momentarily whenever they answer response items correctly. There is a teaching and learning benefit, too. The benefit is that a perceived and rewarded "flow" develops" resulting in confidence supported by positive feedback when a student answers sequences of items correctly. Of course, if a student answers incorrectly, the student will need to stop, consider, and then, click to continue.

The time to self-correct, when a response is INCORRECT would not change; every learner requires a chance to absorb feedback when responding incorrectly. However, in many, if not most cases in the USA, quizzes are designed by teachers for review or reinforcement and the expected outcome is that the great majority (80% or higher) of items SHOULD be correctly answered. In my case, I am annoyed when I constantly need to shift attention to find and click the continue button when the answer is correct; many students, I suspect, feel the same way. Why? It's just "cognitive load" that can be eliminated. So, an OPTIONAL setting would eliminate the need for students to have to constantly click on a button to continue, even when the response is correct.

2. Probably, this change would be relatively easy to develop. Instead of requiring an active click on the button to just continue, answering correctly would trigger the event to continue after a brief delay; again, this would only happen if the response is evaluated as correct. So, after a 2-second delay, the correct response would "move along" in a very smooth and intuitive way.

3. It would fit in well with the general goals and direction of your wonderful H5P project.

Thanks in advance for your consideration!

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the kind words this means a lot to us.

Thanks a lot for contributing your ideas on how to make H5P better! We’re now working on something called the H5P supporter program allowing the H5P community to vote for and fund the top voted H5P features. Also there are developers in the community who every now and then works on a feature they find interesting or useful.
