Branching Scenario

Hi there! I have attempted so many times to count in creating my first successful branching scenario. I have given up and used a different h5p format. I am determined to learn though! I have an example that wants students to choose one of three scenarios and go through them. However, I cannot figure out the correct steps to make it happen. Thank you in advance to all those individuals that help teach me (and YouTube didn't seem to have an example similiar to the one I am creating). Below is the branching format:

Introduction

Text: “You’re about to start your needfinding journey! Choose a location and begin observing. Remember to note any unusual behaviors and focus on the needs that arise. Ready?”

Branch 1: Choose a Location

Option 1: Coffee Shop Text: “You enter a coffee shop filled with people chatting, working, and sipping drinks. Look around and see what you can observe.”

Option 2: Classroom Text: “You’re in a lecture hall where students are settling in, preparing for the class. Observe the environment and interactions carefully.”

Option 3: Park Text: “You’ve chosen to sit in a park where people are relaxing, exercising, and walking their pets. What do you notice about how they engage with their surroundings?”

Branch 2: Observations

Based on the location selected, short videos play showing different behaviors. Each branch allows for observation options.

  • Coffee Shop Observation Prompts:

    • Video: A customer struggling to find a power outlet.
    • Text Prompt: “The customer is moving around, looking frustrated. What is the need here?”
      • Options: "Need for power outlets" | "Need for seating"
    • Correct Answer: "Need for power outlets"
    • Feedback: “Great! Lack of outlets could lead to frustration for coffee shop customers who want to work.”
  • Classroom Observation Prompts:

    • Video: A student struggling to hear the lecture from the back.
    • Text Prompt: “The student is leaning forward and squinting at the screen. What might they need?”
      • Options: "Need for better sound" | "Need for a seat change"
    • Correct Answer: "Need for better sound"
    • Feedback: “Correct! Poor sound quality might prevent students from fully engaging in the lecture.”
  • Park Observation Prompts:

    • Video: A person trying to juggle walking a dog and holding their phone.
    • Text Prompt: “This person seems to be struggling. What might the need be?”
      • Options: "Need for hands-free solution" | "Need for better leash"
    • Correct Answer: "Need for hands-free solution"
    • Feedback: “Yes! This could be an opportunity for an innovative product.”

Branch 3: Asking Questions

After observing, students proceed to ask questions to uncover hidden needs. Each scenario offers pre-written questions.

  • Coffee Shop Example:

    • Question: “Why did you choose this spot in the coffee shop?”
    • Answer: “I wanted to work on my laptop, but there aren’t enough outlets.”
    • Follow-up Question: “How do you usually solve that problem?”
      • Answer: “I try to sit near the counter or bring a portable charger.”
  • Classroom Example:

    • Question: “What’s the most challenging part of this class environment?”
    • Answer: “The sound isn’t loud enough, so I can’t always hear from the back.”

Branch 4: Thought Process Mapping

Drag-and-Drop Activity: Based on the scenario, students create a thought process map using the observations and answers they’ve collected. They organize elements like Awareness, Consideration, Decision, Action, and Resolution into the correct order to complete the map.

  • Example (Coffee Shop):
    • Awareness: The customer needs a power source.
    • Consideration: Searching for outlets in various locations.
    • Decision: Sitting near the counter to access an outlet.
    • Action: Setting up the laptop at the counter.
    • Resolution: The customer is able to work but feels uncomfortable at the counter.

Completion Feedback:

“Fantastic work! You’ve identified needs, asked insightful questions, and mapped the thought process. Use these findings in your next step toward creating solutions!”
