Export PDF from documentation tool and not docx

I would like to know if it is posible to export a pdf from the documentation tool in place of the regular docxs file. I want it to be non editable so that my students will just get their filledout file and they can submit it elsewhere. I have looked thorugh the files for this content type, and I didn't find an obvious block of code where the conversion happens (granted my javascript isnt that great). 

Have any other developers done something similar to this or would be able to point me in the right direction to modify the tool for my needs?
