I would appreciate the possibility of avoiding the white spaces checking in the answers

For example if the answer is 

*an apple* 

accept *an    apple" as correct.

Or if the answer is

*Do you speak English?*

accept *Do you speak English  ?* as correct.

The next update to version 1.8 of Fill in the blanks will include an optional feature to pardon minor spelling mistakes. It may need some fine tuning in the future, but it should work quite well.
